The ACC International Twinning Program: Report from Manchester, June 2010
Dr. Ralph Brindis, Dr. John Harold, Dr. Jack Lewin, Dr. Daniel Berman, John Bournas, Dr. Dipti Itchhaporia and Dr. George Smith attended the Annual Conference and Exhibition of the British Cardiovascular Society (BCS). This year’s meeting was held at the Manchester Central International Exhibition and Conference Center in the United Kingdom. The BCS Leadership team will reciprocate by attending the October 2010 annual meeting of the ACC California Chapter at the Montage Hotel in Beverly Hills.
The California Chapter of the American College of Cardiology (CAACC) is twinned with the British Cardiovascular Society (BCS) as part of ACC’s International Twinning Program. The CAACC BCS relationship is the first pilot program between an ACC State Chapter (California) and a national cardiovascular society (BCS). The program is designed to develop long-term relationships between cardiovascular professionals in the United States and the United Kingdom. The program provides free access to member materials on the BCS Web site, as well as reduced or complimentary registration fees to CA-ACC and BCS educational programs and meetings. BCS and the CA-ACC will be able to contribute and have access to each other’s journals and newsletters. The program also provides unique opportunities for institutional visits, lecture tours and mini-preceptorships in the U.S and the U.K. The ACC-BCS Fellowship in Cardiovascular Imaging which began earlier this year is part of the program and is designed as a cooperative training experience between Cedars-Sinai Medical Center and the Royal Brompton Hospital in London. California Chapter leaders were all made honorary members of the British Cardiovascular Society.
