October 6, 2016:
The ACC made a select number of travel awards available to cover expenses for FITs to travel to the ACC’s 2016 Legislative Conference September 11 – 13, 2016 in Washington DC. Yu Xie, MD, Chief Cardiology Fellow 16-17 at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center, received the award and shared her experience at the conference.

Ford Foundation Fellowships for Life Sciences Research on Trialect


October 6, 2016:
We have a posting on Trialect soliciting applications for The Ford Foundation Fellowships for Life Sciences Research. This year the program will award approximately 36 dissertation fellowships, 24 postdoctoral fellowships, and 60 predoctoral fellowships. Fellowships are tenable at any fully accredited, non-proprietary (not for profit) U.S. institution of higher education. An applicant need not be accepted by the chosen institution at the time of application. As the application deadline is Monday, November 10, 2016, we are reaching out to see if you can refer your fellows/junior investigators to this program. The details can be perused at:

Excellence in Cardiology Fellowship Award Presented to 14 Emerging Leaders


On May 15, 2015, 14 California Fellows-in-Training were awarded the "Excellence in Cardiology Fellowship Award" in recognition and appreciation for work in clinical care, teaching, research, leadership, and Academic Achievement. This award program is in affiliation with the Cardiovascular Research Foundation of Southern California.

The funding resources page has been an initiative of the Early Career Professionals Section Leadership Council. The InfoEd SPIN database is provided free to ACC members through an ACC-paid subscription to the service. See also on that research funding page the Research Collaboration Network, grant writing resources, and also an opportunity for institutional discounts on research administration software from InfoEd that can save institutions thousands of dollars in administration costs and development.

ACC.15 Award
[February 2015] The ACC has made a select number of travel awards available to cover expenses for FITs to travel to the 2015 Annual Scientific Sessions in San Diego, CA. The award provides funding for airfare, lodging, meals, ground transportation, and any other expenses to and from the Conference held March 14-16, 2015.
Eligibility:
All current ACC FIT members are eligible. Presenters and non-presenters at ACC.15 are both eligible. No more than one award will be granted from any single training program.
The Award:
Travel expenses will be reimbursed for airfare, lodging, meals, ground transportation, and other expenses up to $1,500 for travel to and from the 2015 Annual Scientific Sessions in San Diego, CA March 14-16, 2015. Award winners will be asked to enroll in the ACC's mentoring program (www.acc.org/mentoring).
How to Apply:

Each FIT candidate will need to submit the following materials listed below to slefebvre@acc.org by Monday, February 9, 2015. In your email please include your full name, training program, and training dates. Winners will be selected by the FIT Section Leadership Council.
-- Nomination letter from training director.
-- Letter of Interest: Please include any prior engagement with the ACC, including prior committee applications (even if you were not selected) and appointments. Discuss how you would use this travel award to forward your career and become more involved with the ACC. Please limit to one page.

Each quarter the ACC publishes a newsletter just for Fellows in Training (FITs). Access the latest in FIT newsletter and archived issues on the American College of Cardiology CardioSource website.

Purpose of our California Chapter

The purpose of the Chapter shall be to contribute to the prevention of cardiovascular diseases, to ensure optimal quality care for the individuals with such diseases and to foster the highest professional ethical standards. In carrying out these purposes the Chapter shall function in consultation with the leadership of the College and as an advisor to local and state governmental and professional organizations concerning issues related to cardiovascular disease.

The Chapter shall, in the interests of patients, physicians, and the public in general, maintain a high level of social consciousness and involvement with socioeconomic issues which may influence access to high quality cardiovascular health care for all individuals.

The Chapter has been formed as a 501(c)(6) not-for-profit corporation underthe federal and California state tax codes. The Chapter maintains an Executive Office with a full time Executive Director and support staff. The Chapter also maintains a full time lobbyist and staff in Sacramento.
